About 100 yards before the finish I heard Alta and Leo yell go Grandpa. Then I heard Heath yell Duncan your right behind Grandpa get going. He won by 3 secs! But wait ther's more Amy was just 3 secs behind me!

Leadville Finish 5
1 Heath finished in 9hrs 44mins! He came in 133 out of 800 riders. He did the last couple of hrs in rain. He gave me his rain jacket on the last crew stop 25 miles from the finish. It wasn't raining then.
6

I thought I might have to carry him to the Hotel but he was in great shape. After a hot shower we went out to eat a big supper. Then we went back to the finish to see the last riders come in under 12hrs to count!

Leadville Belt Buckle 5
1 Heath won a sweatshirt with his name and time on the sleeve. He also won a silver belt buckle because he finished under 12hrs.

Heath is already planning his return for next year to try for under 9hrs and a gold belt buckle. Only 60 finished under 9hrs this year and all but 5 were from the mountains!

Chequamegon Short & Fat 2006 5
1 I got up early and put my bike down at 7:30am. I found an espresso shop right at the start. Wahoo! Do you see Leo by my Bike?
6

800 riders at the start is really scary. The gun goes off and we all take off like maniacs. One bad accident that I managed to miss after some screeching brakes.

Chequamegon Short & Fat 2006 5
1 I rode hard the whole race. The down hills were scary and people would pass me. I would then pass them back going up hill.
6

I went back and forth like this with a 19 year old girl. We raced right to the finish and she beat my by 1/2 second.

1 My Bike is down and ready.Press watch show to see my race showing elevation changes and my speed.
6

I had a average heart rate of 150 through out the race. My max hit 164. I felt great and recovered well. No time for recovery during the race as downhills too short.
